This is Why I am Distrustful of the Police

For the sake of clarity, I understand that the TSA is not the police, nevertheless we see similar behavior with the police and pretty much any group of people empowered by the state to exert force over individuals.

Point of fact: there are limits to the amount of cash you are allowed to carry.  I believe the amount varies by state (I'm not very clear on this, though.  On Law & Order last night, I saw an episode where they said there was a $10K federal limit that required some sort of declaration.), but amounts above the limit are seen as being likely as proceeds from a crime, usually drug sales.

I remember a news story from a few years ago in Georgia in which a small business owner (I think it was some sort of landscaping company) was detained for something like $14K in cash he had.

1 I worked at a bank for years and anytime anyone deposits an amount of cash of more than $10,000, we had to report it to the government.  It's evidence of potential money laundering is what we were always told as to why we had to file it.  Whatever the reasons, it was annoying because, at the time, it was all hand-written forms to fill out and took too much time.
