This Blog is Almost Dead

I've been thinking about abandoning this blog and starting a new one.

The last time I moved my blog -- when I became "Flibbertigibbet" -- was absolutely devastating to my readership.  It was, overall, a very unpleasant process and a decision I did not make lightly.

Now, I'm considering another move, although there's a very good chance that I won't be able to take my posts with me.  That's pretty sad since I've been blogging since 2003.  With the exception of the period of time when I tried WordPress and could not export my posts, you can see everything I've blogged right here!

The reason I'm considering a move is because I'm trying to consolidate my online identity so that it's closer to my real-life identity.  This will make it easier to run this blog as well as my other blog and just keep track of everything that's going on.

I still have some logistics to work out and knowing how I like to plan things out, it will likely be a while before it happens.  Also, it won't be a secret move like it was when I moved over here.

So, anyway, heads up!

Learning a Lesson the Hard Way

Um.  So, I owe you all a bit of an apology.

A few weeks back, I discovered the glory of Google Reader and immediately signed up to read approximately 65,000 different websites every day.

It did not take long before my compulsion to have my Google Reader constantly at 0 items to read found itself at odds with sheer volume of the internets.  Obviously, I had to prune my reader.

I know not everyone has a driving need to read EVERYTHING that Google Reader sends to them, but I am not everyone.

And the sites that bug me the most are the ones that post more than two or three times (MAX!) a day.  I just can't keep up with them.

With that in mind, I am going to try to slow my posting down to one or two posts a day. You know this is a lie, right?  I'll try, but if there's anything that I do more compulsively than look at my Google Reader it's blather on here on there here bloggy thingie.  I mean, I'm TRY, but I just don't think I'll succeed.

I'm not sure quite how that will work since I like to talk about a LOT of things, but I'll try to figure something out.

I've been insanely busy at work lately, so I've had no time to do any substantive blogging.  Unfortunately, I'm heading to Georgia tomorrow to celebrate a friend's wedding, so light blogging will continue.

And when I get back, I will be insanely busy again, so I really just don't know when I'll get back to my usual blogging habits.

Internet Idiots

I asked some idiot who made a dumb comment on my blog to be quiet recently and he responded in part with this:

You can ban me from "your" site if you want but as you know internet is a free forum and your site is part of that freedom. I hope you hate any kind of censoring.

Um.

My worry here is that there are a lot more than this fool who think this.

This website IS mine.  The content of the site belongs to ME unless attributed to another source.

And just because I leave my website accessible to anyone who cares to visit, that does not mean that I am not allowed to restrict if and how particular individuals use it.  Furthermore, it is my right to exercise that power as capriciously or as judiciously as I please.

When you comment on my website, what happens to your comment is up to me and no one else.

And if you're sitting around hoping that I "hate any kind of censoring" your hopes are misplaced.  When it comes to my property, I love my rights, which means I love the power I have to be rid of remarks from the profoundly stupid, and that also means that I love exercising that power from time to time. Call it censorship if you please.  It's still my blog.

Considering a Blog Move

I'm thinking about moving my blog to a new host.  Someone has presented me with a free option, but the last time I moved, it was pretty disastrous.  Plus, it would mean changing my URL... again.

On the other hand, I would like more flexibility and control over my template.  I'd also like to be able to push full posts into my RSS feed.

What do you think about that?
