I tried to comment on your 23 January item on Post-capitalism, but don't think I was successful. ... It went like this:-
Well Trey, you got their number, but you added up incorrectly, and you got it wrong! Capitalism, if allowed to continue its uncontrolled EXPLOITATION of the Planet, will have buggered it such that within fifty years, our civilisation will be with others - in the dust. And, yes, it is simple mathematics: if we don't find a more self-sustaining method of planetary management soon, we'll have "consumed" the only Planet we've got. While ^Post-capitalism^ is simply an awkward handle for ``something better than the self-destructive system we've got``, whether the replacement system is called, "Communitarianism", or whatever, we certainly need something more rational to replace the present Capitalism. Expand your conceptual framework! For thousands of years primitive man was part of Nature, sought to co-operate with the natural forces, and lived in balance with them. It is only recently, since modern man has decided to 'conquer' Nature, that we have started the greedy taking from Nature … having forgotten that survival is a matter of 'give' and 'take'. In two centuries, Capitalism has almost ruined the Planet with its mantra of "competition", and will complete the task during its third - if we are allowed to keep chanting the same tune. The alternative, sanguine concept has to be "co-operation": there's no hope for modern man if we don't soon change to a co-operative system of economics i.e. firstly, Mankind co-operating with itself; and secondly, with the Planet.
