Diana Hsieh apparently can't hear it and at least one of my coworkers couldn't hear it although others could hear it all the way across the room.

I know that a few years ago I could still hear it. Now I'm not sure if I'm imagining I hear it, as I watch the slider go across the little bar, or if I actually hear it. I suspect the former

The sure way to tell is to turn your volume all the way up and play it and see if you have a strong urge to bash your head against a wall.
